Night Guards
This is great for bruxers and muscle soreness. Many patients have a bite guard, especially if they have invested a lot of money into restorative work, to further protect the teeth.
Removable Partial Dentures
We will do our best to provide you with well-fitted, functional, and esthetic removable partial dentures. We feel confident that after a few weeks of becoming adjusted to the new dentures, and if properly maintained, you can expect to have years of satisfaction and use from them.
The first few weeks: New removable partial dentures always feel strange when first placed in your mouth. Several days or even a few weeks will be required for you to feel accustomed to them. Do not wear appliances while sleeping.
Sore Spots: Usually, your mouth will have a few "sore spots" after wearing the dentures the first day or two. Wear your appliances sparingly until they are adjusted during your next appointment. Do not attempt to adjust or repair your appliance yourself. You may damage it and will be responsible for further repairs or replacement.
Chewing: The new bite may feel strange for a few days. We will adjust the contacting surfaces of your appliance in a follow-up appointment, usually within 1-2 days, and/or again in about one week, if needed.
Cleaning the dentures and your mouth: Your dentures can be cleaned using a soft bristle toothbrush and a mild toothpaste such as Complete (Procter and Gamble), or regular hand soap. Use special care to clean the parts of the partial dentures that contact any natural teeth. Both the partial denture and the natural teeth must be kept very clean on a daily basis to reduce the chance of new dental decay starting. Use fluoride-containing toothpaste on your natural teeth. We recommend using a denture soak when the appliances are out of your mouth.
Clean your appliance over a half-filled sink. The small "arms" or clasps are very fragile and will break or bend if you drop them. These can be repaired. If the heavy metallic parts are broken or bent, the appliance will have to be remade. Damage to your appliance is not covered in the fee for the appliance and is the patient's responsibility.
The future: Your jaw bones and gums shrink up to 1/32 of an inch per year after your teeth are extracted. This shrinkage is one of the main disadvantages of artificial dentures, and there is more shrinkage within the first year after the teeth have been removed. Because of this shrinkage, you should plan to have your dentures and oral tissues evaluated once per year by us. We will inform you when refitting (called reline or rebase) of the dentures is necessary. Wearing ill-fitting dentures for too long without relining can cause severe bone loss and serious oral diseases.
Partial dentures made within 6 months of significant extractions may need relining or new partial dentures may need to be constructed. If you would like to have your dentures at the time of, or within 6 months of multiple extractions and/or substantial bone removal, speak to your doctor about having immediate or temporary partial appliances constructed.
Dentures and or teeth will break if the appliance is dropped or abused, such as by chewing ice, hard candy and other foods.

Immediate Dentures
We plan to do our best to provide you with an immediate denture placed in your mouth. The following information will assist you to understand the sequence of events during the healing period.
At or Around the Time of Placement:
1. Teeth will be removed from your mouth. Stitches may be placed to help your mouth heal. If so, they will dissolve by themselves over several days, unless we tell you differently.
2. One or two dentures will be placed to replace your missing teeth and gum tissue. Initially, immediate dentures will feel large and bulky until your gums have healed and shrunken, at which time the immediate denture may require a reline. The dentures may cause your speech to be altered for a few days until your mouth and tongue adjust to them.
3. Immediate dentures must stay in your mouth until your follow-up appointment the next day, when we remove them. The new dentures serve as a bandage, similar to a cast on a broken arm during initial healing. If you remove your dentures before your follow-up appointment, the potential for swelling increases and you may not be able to get them back in. After we remove and adjust your dentures, you should remove them at least daily for cleaning. After your first follow-up appointment, do not wear your denture(s) when sleeping.
4. Some discomfort is usually present when teeth are removed and immediate dentures are placed. The discomfort is usually due to the trauma of removing teeth, and within a few days, the discomfort usually goes away. Sometimes, the denture may have pressure spots. If so, we will locate and adjust them. Sore spots will not go away by themselves. Do not adjust your own dentures. If you damage the dentures while adjusting them, you will be responsible for the cost of repairing or replacing them.
5. If you have been given antibiotics, it is important to continue taking them until all of the tablets are used. However, if you develop symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives or rash, stop taking the medication and call the dentist. If symptoms are severe, such as difficulty in breathing, call 911 immediately. Use the pain reliving pills that we recommend or prescribe while you are experiencing discomfort.
6. As soon as convenient, place ice cubes in a plastic bag and place the bag externally on the area where the teeth were removed for 15 minutes, then remove for 15 minutes and continue to alternate on and off for four hours. This will reduce swelling and bruising. However, some swelling and bruising may still occur.
7. Your dentures may be relined at the time of insertion, with a soft material that makes them easier to wear and speeds healing. That material may be replaced during the initial healing period of 6 weeks or more. It is not as durable as the final denture material, so be careful not to dislodge this soft material when cleaning.
8.Immediate dentures are a major change to your body. Don't worry if you are slow to adapt. Millions of others have been through this experience.
After initial and subsequent healing:
1. After 6 weeks (minimum) your denture may be relined with a durable material to refine its fit to the healing supporting tissues. If needed within 6 months, this reline is included in the cost of your immediate denture. At this time, the denture should fit and function as intended.
2. Healing from tooth extraction continues for up to 18 months. Shrinkage of gums and bone is obvious during that time, but it slows thereafter. You may elect to have subsequent relines. These additional relines are not included in the immediate denture fee. In some cases, if substantial amounts of bone have to be removed, you may need to have the dentures remade. This remake is not included in your fee for immediate dentures.
Wearing ill-fitting dentures for too long without relining can cause severe bone loss and serious oral diseases. Dentures and or teeth will break if the appliance is dropped or abused, such as chewing ice, hard candy or other hard foods. Except for the first reline if done within 6 months of insertion of your immediate dentures, fees for relining, rebasing and/or other procedures are not included in the cost of the dentures.

Complete Dentures

2. Sore spots: Usually, your mouth will have a few "sore spots" when you first start wearing them. If this occurs, keep your denture(s) out of your mouth until the soreness subsides and call for an appointment as soon as possible. The dentures can be adjusted during your next appointment. Another appointment, usually within one week will eliminate other sore areas. Some individuals who are particularly sensitive may need more adjustments during the first 6 months, especially if teeth were extracted 6 months or less prior to starting the dentures. Do not adjust your own dentures. If you damage the dentures, you will be responsible for the cost of repairing or replacing them.
3. Chewing: The new bite may not feel completely comfortable for a period of days. We will adjust the contacting surfaces of your bite in 24 hours and again about one week after the dentures have settled into place.
4. Upper Vs. Lower dentures: An upper denture will usually rest comfortably in place with moderate to strong "suction." Although your lower denture should have good stability, use only a powder adhesive, very sparingly. Too much material will alter your bite and damage the bony foundation upon which the dentures rest.
5. Cleaning the dentures and your mouth: Your dentures can be cleaned by using a soft bristle toothbrush and mild toothpaste such as Complete (Proctor and Gamble). Denture soaks are also useful for the denture. Brush your gums with a soft toothbrush once per day to toughen and clean them. Remove your dentures over a sink half filled with water to avoid breaking them, which can happen if they fall on to a hard floor. When the dentures are out of the mouth, leave them soaking in water to avoid warping.
